The partnership between ASICS Oceania and Cricket Australia is off to a winning start with the Australian Twenty20 side claiming victory over South Africa overnight.
Australian cricket’s next big thing Pat Cummins claimed three scalps on debut and ASICS Ambassador Shane Watson blazed a half century with the bat to guide the tourists to a tight five-wicket Twenty20 victory over South Africa in Cape Town
Wearing the newly unveiled ASICS team uniform, fast bowler Cummins, 18, was one of four Australians making their first international T20 appearance and he lived up to all the pre-match hype with three wickets in the 19th over to restrict South Africa to 7-146.
Then Watson, forced to overcome the first-over loss of opening partner David Warner, survived an early chance to smash 52 off 39 balls to help Australia meet the target with three balls to spare.
Captain Cameron White (28 off 22), David Hussey (25 off 27) and Shaun Marsh (25 off 19) also contributed but Watson’s return to form was the catalyst, boosted by South Africa dropping three crucial chances.
Doug Bollinger, James Pattinson and Matthew Wade also got their first T20 international caps at Newlands.
